My Experience with Gallstones
In 2002 I started having severe stomach pains. My doctor diagnosed it as heartburn. That just didn’t seem right to me.
As the pains started getting more severe I realized this must be more than simple heartburn. I got online and searched for answers. It didn’t take long to realize I had the classic symptoms of gallstones.
I went back to the doctor with my newfound information, was able to get tested for gallstones, and was sent to a surgeon to have my gallbladder removed. I’m not one to go through any surgery without checking out less invasive options and making surgery a last resort.
Here is what I found out about gallstones; they are sometimes brought on by food allergies/intolerances. Digestive enzymes and the supplement Betaine HCL can help. I narrowed down my own food intolerance to peanuts. Most every time I ate peanuts or any kind of peanut product, I had an attack. I stopped eating peanuts! I started taking a Betaine HCL and a digestive enzyme with each meal because Betaine HCL thins bile in the gallbladder and dissolves cholesterol, which is what the gallstones are said to be made of. It works for me. When I felt the familiar gallbladder pain I took a couple of Betaine HCL. Within an hour of taking it, I usually felt some or complete relief.
My last serious gallbladder attack was in 2004. I no longer have gallbladder pain and I no longer take Betaine HCL regularly. I did take Betaine HCL and a digestive enzyme regularly for about 6 month after my last attack. I’ve realized that as long as I stay away from peanuts the gallbladder pain stays away from me. Perhaps the supplements gave me time to heal and normalize my gallbladder and help dissolve any stones that may have caused the initial problems. That‘s my story and I’m sticking to it.
